User Conduct
Fleshing out your "Safe Harbor" guidelines is a smart CEO move. It transforms a vague "placeholder" into a professional framework that protects your Ambassadors, your users, and the brand itself.
Here is a comprehensive draft you can use for your website and "Founder Folder":
AARF Community Guidelines & Behavioral Standards
1. The Principle of Cultural Integrity
The AARF community is built on mutual respect and the preservation of cultural dignity. Users must engage with all historical data and Heritage Ambassadors in a manner that honors the weight of the history being explored.
-
Prohibited Conduct: Any form of "cultural voyeurism," disparaging remarks about traditional customs, or the trivialization of ancestral trauma will result in immediate permanent suspension.
-
Authenticity: Users are expected to approach connections with a truthful intent to learn and reconnect, rather than to exploit or consume.
2. Ambassador Safety & Interaction
Our West African Ambassadors are the heartbeat of AARF. Their safety and dignity are non-negotiable.
-
Zero Tolerance for Harassment: We reject all forms of discrimination, hostility, or unwelcome conduct based on race, nationality, religion, or gender.
-
Professional Boundaries: Video calls must remain focused on heritage, lineage, and cultural exchange. Any attempt to solicit personal favors, financial aid, or non-related personal information is strictly forbidden.
-
Reporting: A "Safe Harbor" reporting tool is available at all times. All reports are reviewed by our moderation team within 24 hours.
3. Data Ethics & Privacy
Handling ancestral records is a sacred trust.
-
Respect for the Living: Users must obtain informed consent before publicly sharing information regarding living persons identified through our platform.
-
Record Integrity: Users agree to treat all digital records and historical documents with care, refraining from misleading or exaggerated claims regarding their findings.
4. Legal Information & Compliance
-
Liability: AARF provides the platform for connection but is not liable for the individual behavior of users outside of moderated sessions.
-
Agreement to Terms: By joining the "Founding 50" or subscribing, users agree to abide by these ethical standards. We reserve the right to impose sanctions or take remedial action for any policy violation.
-
Cultural Heritage Laws: AARF operates in accordance with international cultural heritage standards to ensure our activities do not inadvertently damage or disrespect important cultural assets.
Foundation Services
AARF provides a heritage-tech platform designed to facilitate identity reclamation. While we strive for the highest accuracy in historical data and DNA interpretation, services are provided 'as is'. Detailed descriptions of platform access for Founding 50 members will be added here.
Liability
Liability, Indemnification, and Dispute Resolution
1. Limitation of Liability
The African American Re-connection Foundation (AARF) provides a platform for connection and education.
-
Third-Party Data: AARF serves as a facilitator and is not responsible for the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of external genealogical databases, DNA testing results, or historical records.
-
Genealogical Discrepancies: Research into lineage is subject to the limitations of historical record-keeping. AARF is not liable for emotional distress or "discrepancy frustration" resulting from conflicting data or unexpected ancestral findings.
-
Maximum Liability: To the extent permitted by law, AARF’s total liability for any claim arising out of our services shall not exceed the amount paid by the user for said services during the preceding twelve-month period.
2. Indemnification
By using our services, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless AARF, its founders, and its African Ambassadors from any claims, losses, or damages (including legal fees) arising from:
-
Your violation of the AARF Community Guidelines.
-
Any content or information you post or share through our platform.
-
Your interactions with other users or Ambassadors outside of the moderated AARF environment.
3. Dispute Resolution & Governing Law
-
Mandatory Arbitration: In the event of a dispute, users agree to first attempt an informal resolution with AARF management. If a resolution is not reached within 60 days, the dispute shall be settled through binding arbitration rather than in a general court of law.
-
Governing Law: These terms are governed by the laws of the state in which AARF is officially incorporated, Georgia
-
Class Action Waiver: Users agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis and waive the right to participate in any class-action lawsuit.
